SD CEO East Women’s Business Center celebrates grand opening at Zeal

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Since the pandemic began, there’s been a big shift in business across the country, with many people deciding to start their own company. Now there’s a new resource center now open for women entrepreneurs in Eastern South Dakota.

“We’ve really seen an increase in the amount of women wanting to start their own business and the SBA really sought that out,” said Ashley Biggar, the Director of SDCEO East Women’s Business Center.

In 2021 the Small Business Administration announced 20 new Women’s Business Centers across the country, including the new SDCEO East location in Sioux Falls.

“We cover the whole eastern side of the state, so about 22 counties over here is what we cover,” Biggar said.

South Dakota’s Western Women’s Business Center opened about 14 years ago at Black Hills State University. Now the new Sioux Falls office celebrated its grand opening Wednesday, welcoming

Strasburg Service Center celebrates 50 years in business

STRASBURG, Va. (WHSV) – The Strasburg Service Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary this month.

It was opened back in January of 1972 by brothers Gary and Gene Holsinger.

Gary Holsinger has solely owned and operated the business for the last 23 years after his brother stepped away, and he’s been there every day working hard for the residents of Strasburg.

“Sometimes it’s up and sometimes it’s down. The only thing I can say is you got to actually be there and you got to work, work hard. I’ve missed three days in the last 50 years, probably, and out of those three days, I was there for an hour each day,” said Holsinger.

The Strasburg Service Center has adapted over the years in order to stay in business, as the town around it has changed.

“Whatever we can do, we do for people. We do a lot of detail

Merritt Properties proposing new Chapel Hill business center

More industrial buildings are planned for the town’s burgeoning commercial center on Millhouse Road just north of Chapel Hill.

East Coast real estate developer Merritt Properties bought the 19-acre site at 7300 Millhouse Road in December for $2.3 million, county land records show. The developer has three more projects completed or in progress in Research Triangle Park, Knightdale and Wake Forest.

“We are excited to strengthen Merritt Properties’ Triangle presence with our expansion into Chapel Hill,” Keith Wallace, with Merritt Properties, said in a news release. “The town’s flex/light industrial market represents great potential. There is increasing demand for our product type given the area’s residential and mixed-use growth.”

The proposed North Chapel Business Center could be completed by 2023 and would replace a former horse farm and single-family home. The project will include two light-industrial buildings serving office and warehouse tenants. One building will have 61,700 square feet
