The restaurant world isn’t easy in the best of times, but the past two years have tested even established businesses.

“Obviously, the labor shortage has been the thing that has affected my peers as much as anything,” said Drew McLeod, owner of Savour in Tallahassee, and a chapter president and state board member for the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association.

Add COVID-19 closures, supply chain issues, rising labor costs and increasing customer expectations into the mix, and restaurant owners can feel like they’re swimming alone in gator-infested water.

But help is available. McLeod will be part of a panel of business and legal

More Than 1,500 Sign Beam for New College of Business Building

Construction on the 74,000-square-foot expansion began in the spring. Plans for the building have been underway for six years. They received final approval from the Board of Trustees in February 2020, but the pandemic pushed construction back one year.

The three-story, four-floor building is anticipated to open in the fall. It was made possible as a result of donors who have expressed confidence in the future of the college and whose gifts are largely funding the project.

“It’s a great symbol of forward progress and gives us a real sense that the end of construction is not far down the road,” said President Joseph J. Helble ’82 during Thursday’s beam signing. “Within a year we will be in a position to occupy the building and give students access to state-of-the-art classrooms and learning spaces.”

The additional space means even more Lehigh students, including those from outside the College of Business,

Meera Komarraju: College of Business and Analytics at SIU Carbondale: The dawning of our future | Education

In the face of numerous challenges external to SIU, the College of Business has been busy reshaping itself for a new and exciting future.

First, the college pivoted into analytics, in a big way! Following in-depth discussions with analytics professionals in six major corporations, we launched four analytics programs, including a BS in Business Analytics, an MS in Strategic Analytics, an online MBA concentration in Analytics for Managers, and a certificate in Analytics for Managers. We hired seven new tenure-track professors, experts in their home field (e.g. accounting, finance, management and marketing), as well as technical expertise in analytics. Analytics is where the future is, in every sector of the economy! Accordingly, we changed our name to the College of Business and Analytics (COBA)!

Second, following SIU’s academic reorganization, the College gained three new synergistic programs: Economics (ECON); Hospitality, Tourism and Event Management (HTEM); and Public Administration (PADM) that strengthen
