Cigna raises 2021 profit forecast as health services unit powers growth

U.S. health insurer Cigna Corp (CI.N) on Friday raised its full-year profit and revenue targets after first-quarter profit topped estimates, as it bet on its health services unit that includes its pharmacy benefits management business, to drive growth.

Cigna’s shares were up over 1% before the bell and its forecast raise follows rivals UnitedHealth (UNH.N) and Anthem Inc (ANTM.N) that last month increased their adjusted profit targets for the year. read more

First Citizens Bank Forecast Shows Business Growth

RALEIGH, N.C., May 03, 2021 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Small business owners have indicated a renewed sense of confidence for growth in their businesses during the year ahead despite the ongoing global pandemic, according to a new survey.

The seventh annual First Citizens Bank Small Business Forecast found nearly 80% of respondents polled are confident or very confident in business growth over the next 12 months, which is a 9% increase since September 2020 and a return to pre-pandemic levels.

Of the states in which the survey was conducted, California had the highest increase in business growth confidence — a 19% increase over the last six months with 84% of respondents expecting a strong year ahead.

West Chicago business park continues growth spurt with Amazon distribution hub

About a decade ago, a business park south of the DuPage Airport had just one operating business: a sales and repair office for a window company.

Today, the DuPage Business Center is almost fully built out, home to an Amazon distribution center that helped complete a remarkable turnaround at the massive campus in West Chicago.

Last summer, Amazon opened a “last mile” facility that handles packages for the last leg of delivery to customers. The 145,000-square-foot distribution hub brought about 250 employees, plus another 300 drivers, to the sprawling site.

Amazon has contributed to “major growth” at the 800-acre business park south of Roosevelt Road, West Chicago Mayor Ruben Pineda said during his State of the City address this week.
