Dear fans of The Weather Channel,
Thank you. You are among the 400 million people who turn to us to inform life decisions – big and small. I have the honor of leading The Weather Company, including weather.com and The Weather Channel app, and I wanted to thank you for inspiring us. You are the reason the team and I strive to serve you every day. We take that responsibility very seriously and know accuracy is of utmost importance.
A new report from ForecastWatch, a third-party weather forecast validator, confirms The Weather Channel is the world’s most accurate forecaster. Commissioned by IBM, the independent study is a comprehensive assessment of 140 million forecasts over four years, eight global regions, 17 different weather providers, and 84 accuracy metrics covering precipitation, temperature, cloud cover and wind variables. For more about this news, check out our recent announcement.
Results derived from this report show that not only are we the overall most accurate weather forecaster globally, but the gap between us and other weather providers is growing. Our accuracy lead has increased each year over the last four years, and we are now 3.5 times more likely to be the most accurate than any other weather provider studied. In fact, we are the most accurate weather forecaster most often in each region studied, including the U.S., Africa, Asia-Pacific, Canada, Central America, Europe, Middle East and South America.
We continue to innovate with your needs in mind. To help provide you with accurate forecasts, we continue to invest in technology that puts The Weather Company products and consumer brands ahead of the rest in terms of accuracy. We have improved the use of artificial intelligence in forecasting, launched the IBM GRAF global weather model, and made other significant breakthroughs in global weather forecasting.
Your safety and your needs are what motivate our team of designers, developers, data scientists, and hundreds of talented meteorologists to pour their hearts and minds into continually improving our forecast accuracy. Thank you for trusting us and making us an integral part of your life.
Please continue to contact our team with feedback on how we can continue to help serve you.
