USC Upstate to starts business analytics series > GSA Business

The University of South Carolina Upstate will launch a conference series sponsored by BMW Group aimed at helping area businesses make better decisions through the analysis of data. USC Upstate’s Johnson College of Business and Economics will host the first installment of The Power of Analytics as a free, live virtual event from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

The series is intended to serve as a platform for business leaders to share their insights on how to align analytics with business strategy, to display their applications of cutting-edge technologies to complex problems, to discuss emerging talent needs and to identify challenges and lessons learned, according to a news release.

The inaugural event will include workshops, information sessions, and panel discussions featuring leaders from a variety of companies that include BMW, Delta Bravo AI, Duke Energy, Honeywell, Mastercard, Milliken & Co., OTO Development, Pricewaterhouse Coopers, Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System, United Health Group and Wells Fargo.

“We are delighted to partner with industry leaders that understand the predictive potential of data analysis to improve financial performance, strategic management and operational efficiency,” USC Upstate Chancellor Bennie Harris said in the news release. “This is yet another great example of how this university continues to provide transformational opportunities for residents of the Upstate region and beyond.”

In the fall of 2019, USC Upstate launched a master’s degree in business analytics — the first graduate program of its kind in South Carolina. Since its inception, the program has nearly doubled in size, the release said.

“Chancellor Harris is pursuing a bold vision for USC Upstate to be not only an invaluable and trustworthy resource, but the Southeast’s foremost producer of analytics talent,” USC Upstate’s director of business analytics Uma Gupta said in the release. “This event will be the first of many aimed at building an active and engaged community of analytics professionals.”

Registration is open now.

The Power of Analytics conference plans to host an in-person event on April 20-21, 2022. More details will follow.
